Palhares kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Flo Rida- 54321. Jake Palhares could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ana Balestra's chin.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ana Balestra!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Palhares .

Balestra takes the fight into the clinch.
Palhares is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Balestra is defending well.
Palhares tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Palhares . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Balestra can't break the clinch.

Palhares looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Balestra has picked Palhares up and slammed him! Palhares can't keep hold of the triangle and Balestra manages to pass to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palhares is breathing heavily.

Balestra has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Palhares tries to clinch but Balestra is having none of it.

Balestra rushes Palhares and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Palhares breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Balestra tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Palhares changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Balestra tries to avoid it but Palhares manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Balestra to the ground. Balestra escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Balestra closes the distance and clinches.
Palhares tries for a takedown but Balestra manages to get underhooks.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Palhares wants to break free but Balestra has control.

Balestra gets control of Palhares 's arms and successfully pulls guard. Balestra will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Palhares shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Balestra counters with a left and a right that stings Palhares .
Balestra fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Balestra shoots in but no luck this time.
Balestra misses with a head kick.
Palhares moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Balestra throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Balestra is looking to clinch.
Jake Palhares is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Balestra tries to close the distance and clinch up but Palhares swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Palhares closes the distance and clinches up with Balestra, looking for a takedown. Palhares pushes Balestra against the cage but Balestra circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Balestra counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Balestra gets to his feet. Palhares looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Palhares gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Balestra trying to control but Palhares is working from the bottom.
Balestra chips away with some ground and pound.
Balestra is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Balestra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Palhares swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Palhares lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Balestra!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Balestra sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Ana Balestra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Balestra has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Palhares is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Balestra wants the takedown. Palhares is fighting it off but Balestra persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Palhares 's guard against the cage.

Balestra is posturing up here but Palhares has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Balestra tries to roll out but it's too tight and Balestra has to tap! Slick submission there by Palhares !

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jake Palhares !
