PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Trig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Staunton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Trig!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Staunton!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trig throws the kick towards the body but Staunton avoids it.
Staunton shoots in for a takedown but Trig shows good takedown defense.
Trig just misses with a punch to the body.
Trig throws a nice head kick!
Trig misses with a double jab.
Trig stuffs the takedown.

Trig shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Staunton's guard.

Trig is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Staunton throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Staunton keeping moving, preventing Trig from controlling successfully.

Staunton had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Trig defends it easily.
Staunton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Staunton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Trig gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Staunton jumps guard and drags Trig to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Trig stands up from Staunton's guard - Trig perhaps looking for a knockout.
Trig tries for a takedown but Staunton sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Staunton displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Trig.
Staunton throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Trig decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Trig not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A close second round but Steve Staunton will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Staunton avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Trig is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Frank Trig overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Steve Staunton was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Trig changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Staunton tries to avoid it but Trig manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Staunton to the ground. Staunton escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Frank Trig has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Staunton.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Staunton lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Trig has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Trig and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Trig tightens his grip and picks Staunton up, before dumping him to the ground. Staunton manages to land in guard.

Trig got a little sloppy there for a moment and Staunton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Trig has managed to get both his arms back between Staunton's legs - danger averted.

Trig drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Trig jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
