Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Greg Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Josh Rick! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rick tries to clinch but Williams moves away and Williams counters by moving into the clinch. Williams looking for a takedown. Rick misses with a short punch on the inside. Williams blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Williams manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Williams is pulling down on Rick's head to control his posture. Rick is looking to stand up but Williams won't let him. Williams wants to sweep here but Rick controlling him for the moment. Rick wanted to stand there but Williams had control of the position. Williams might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams is adopting a defensive guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Rick wants to clinch so Williams counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Williams passes easily into side control. Nice work. Rick is working to avoid the ground and pound but Williams connects with a decent elbow. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Williams looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Williams landing strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams tries for a kimura but Rick is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Williams has an Americana. Rick didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Williams is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Williams hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Greg Williams! Greg Williams seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
