PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grimly Fiendish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brooks kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Tom Sawyer. Grimly Fiendish has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Tyler Brooks's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyler Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Grimly Fiendish!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks just misses with a punch to the body.

Fiendish shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brooks's guard.

Brooks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fiendish doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fiendish manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fiendish trying to control the position from guard on top but Brooks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brooks not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fiendish loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fiendish looking to pass the guard.
Fiendish is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Brooks trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Brooks is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fiendish stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brooks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Fiendish pushes down on Brooks's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Brooks slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Brooks is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Brooks is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fiendish defends well.
Fiendish trying to control the position from guard on top but Brooks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brooks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Brooks looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Fiendish distracts Brooks with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Brooks working for a triangle but Fiendish defends it easily.

Brooks is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Fiendish is aware though and is defending well.

Fiendish gets to his feet. Brooks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fiendish uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Brooks.
Brooks throws a lazy right hand but Fiendish sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Brooks takes a swing at Fiendish's ribcage but misses.
Fiendish checks a low kick from Brooks.
A looping hook to the body misses from Brooks. Fiendish does a little dance to reset his feet.
Fiendish dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

enabling Fiendish to counter with a crisp jab.
Fiendish ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brooks moves away.
Brooks throws a sloppy body shot
and Fiendish counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Brooks thinking.

Brooks misses with a looping left.
Tyler Brooks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed right hand from Fiendish misses the target.
Brooks shoots in looking for a takedown but Fiendish manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Brooks's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Brooks throws a jab when Fiendish was well out of range.
Brooks misses the body punch
and Brooks takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fiendish fails with an attempt to clinch.
Brooks looks to throw the jab but Fiendish is out of range.

Fiendish moves away from the strike by Brooks.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fiendish drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Brooks manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Fiendish scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Grimly Fiendish will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brooks throws a body punch but Fiendish moves out of range.
Brooks fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fiendish manages to avoid it.
Brooks changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fiendish tries to avoid it but Brooks manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fiendish to the ground. Fiendish escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Brooks misses with a left hand
and Fiendish connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Brooks throws a predictable looking body shot
and Fiendish counters with a nice body shot.
Brooks shoots in looking for a takedown but Fiendish manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Brooks's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Brooks throws an overhand right that lands on Fiendish's shoulder, as Fiendish tries to avoid the shot.
Fiendish throws a hook but Brooks blocks it.
Brooks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fiendish's waist but Fiendish gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brooks off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyler Brooks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fiendish looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Brooks looks to land a left hand but Fiendish moved out of range nicely.

Fiendish thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Brooks's head.
Brooks makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brooks.

Brooks is looking for a triangle but Fiendish pushes his legs off easily.

Brooks had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fiendish defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Fiendish wants to control from the top but Brooks keeps moving.
Fiendish tries to free his leg and advance position but Brooks is retaining full guard.
Fiendish trying to control but Brooks is working from the bottom.
Brooks throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Fiendish has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Brooks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fiendish gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Brooks controls Fiendish momentarily but Fiendish frees himself.

Fiendish working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Brooks has his foot on Fiendish's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fiendish works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fiendish advances position into side control!

Fiendish tries to advance to mount but can't.
Fiendish scores with a couple of short elbows.

Fiendish has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Brooks takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Brooks misses with a body shot.

and Fiendish counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Brooks misses with a shot to the body
letting Fiendish counter with a right hand.

Brooks lands a nice looking body shot.
Fiendish tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brooks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fiendish displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Brooks throws out the jab.
Brooks ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fiendish moves away.
Brooks throws a low kick but Fiendish avoids it.
Brooks throws a lazy uppercut
and Fiendish makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Fiendish counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fiendish stands up over Brooks, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Grimly Fiendish showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Brooks connects with a good right hand that stumbles Fiendish. Fiendish circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Brooks swings for the body but Fiendish moves out of range.

Brooks shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Brooks prevents Fiendish from improving his position.

Brooks seems to be working for a kimura but Fiendish defends the submission attempt.
Brooks not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Brooks is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fiendish is just riding it out for now. Brooks eventually gives up the hold.

Brooks is working for a kimura but Fiendish is defending it quite comfortably.
Brooks is stalling here. Fiendish is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Brooks seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Fiendish has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Fiendish is looking to take a break and control but Brooks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
You can see the frustration on Brooks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fiendish has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Brooks!
Brooks can't escape the position.
Fiendish landing punches.
Brooks is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Fiendish raining down shots from the mount!
Brooks takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


Brooks is rocked!
Fiendish with a couple of short strikes.
Oh Brooks is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Brooks is trying desperately to improve position.
Brooks takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Fiendish's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Grimly Fiendish!
