PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miller Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freeman comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Here Comes The Boom - Nelly kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Mike Cox has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Miller Freeman!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freeman shoots for a takedown but Cox saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cox throws a series of punches but Freeman moves out of range.
Cox throws a nice head kick!
Cox throws a series of punches but Freeman avoids them all with ease.
Cox stuffs the takedown attempt from Freeman. Freeman gets slowly back to his feet.
Cox fails to land with a series of punches.
Freeman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cox pinned against the cage. Cox gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mike Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miller Freeman.

Cox moves into range and clinches up with Freeman.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Cox.

Cox breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cox tries to bum rush Freeman with a series of wild strikes but Freeman uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Freeman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cox tries to avoid it but Freeman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cox to the ground. Cox escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Cox shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cox showed some decent athleticism there.
Freeman tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Cox is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Freeman has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cox tries to pass to full mount but Freeman defends it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Freeman is trying to control but can't.
Freeman is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Cox is staying active.

Cox is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cox thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Freeman moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Freeman looking for a sweep. Not yet Freeman, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Cox keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cox moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Cox clinches with his opponent.
Cox wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Freeman has him pressed against the ropes.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Cox creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Cox lands a nice uppercut.
Cox gets underhooks to prevent Freeman's takedown attempt.
Freeman looks gassed!
Freeman tries to pull guard but Cox won't allow it.
Cox makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Freeman stops a takedown attempt from Cox.
A body shot lands from Cox.
Cox working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Freeman works on Cox's body with a couple of short punches.

Cox has clasped his hands together around Freeman's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Cox works to advance to full mount. Freeman defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Cox looking to control but Freeman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cox landing punches.

Cox with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Freeman is trying desperately to improve position.

Cox is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Freeman is surviving well by controlling Cox's body position as best he can.
Freeman wants to hold on but Cox pushes him away.
Freeman should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Cox sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Freeman is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cox is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Freeman can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Cox stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Freeman dodges the punch combination from Cox.

Cox fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Freeman, pushing him back against the ropes.

Cox escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cox throws a head kick that half lands.
Freeman takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Freeman on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Cox. Cox obviously looking to wear him down.
A combination from Cox does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Cox dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Freeman takes a jab right on the kisser.
Cox scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


Freeman is rocked!
Cox lands a big head kick that sends Freeman to the canvas! Cox follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Cox!
