Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Franklin Diggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Whales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggins comes to the cage accompanied by Bonfire. Patrick Whales told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franklin Diggins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick Whales! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Anthony Taglia and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diggins throws a head kick but Whales moves out of range.
Diggins throws a leg kick which misses Whales's front leg but catches the back leg as Whales tries to avoid it. Whales throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Diggins throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Whales. Whales thows a body shot but no joy. Whales misses with an uppercut. Diggins keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Whales. Diggins lands with a kick to the temple. Whales shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Whales misses with a looping right. Whales scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Whales looks to score with a jab to the body but Diggins is just out of range. Whales throws a jab when Diggins was well out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whales misses with a wild body shot. Some wild striking there from Whales.
Whales throws a jab but it's blocked by Diggins. Franklin Diggins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Diggins walks into a stiff left hand from Whales. Whales digs a good body shot into Diggins's ribs. Diggins takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Diggins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Whales throws a jab when Diggins was well out of range. Diggins uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Whales.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diggins wants to clinch. Whales takes a swing at Diggins's ribcage but misses. Whales avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Whales misses with a hook. Diggins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Whales throws a hook but Diggins avoids it easily. Whales shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Whales pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Whales throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diggins's waist but Diggins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Whales off to one side.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whales lands a nice looking body shot.
Whales scores with a shot to the body.
Whales throws a jab but it's blocked by Diggins. Diggins slips under a jab. Diggins closes the distance looking to clinch and Whales counters with a stiff right hand. Whales blocks a head kick by Diggins.
Whales tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diggins sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Whales somewhat. Franklin Diggins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Whales.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Whales will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Whales works Diggins's body with a nice hook. Whales avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Whales. Whales misses with a straight right. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Diggins throws a head kick but Whales moves out of range.
Whales pushing out the jab but it's not landing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick Whales dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
A head kick misses from Diggins. Whales fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Diggins manages to avoid it. Diggins tries to sprawl but Whales drives through with a takedown into half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Diggins is looking to improve his position.
Diggins keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Whales looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Diggins is looking for a sweep. Whales is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Diggins trying to control from the bottom.
Diggins is staying active underneath Whales, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Diggins tries to roll over but Whales keeps him under control. Whales not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whales lands strikes from half guard. Whales landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Diggins avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Whales. Whales thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Diggins won't allow Whales to pass to mount. Whales with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Diggins keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Whales thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Diggins's head. Whales throwing shots but Diggins is blocking nicely. Whales trying to control the pace. Whales throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Diggins is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Whales scores with a couple of nice shots. Diggins moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Diggins wants to stand but Whales is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Diggins is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Whales trying to control the position from guard on top but Diggins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Whales showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Whales lands a couple of decent looking shots. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Diggins keeping moving, preventing Whales from controlling successfully. Diggins is looking to sweep but instead, Whales has passed into half guard.
Whales sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Diggins defending well though. Diggins is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diggins wants to get back to full guard. Whales missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Diggins tries to get to full guard but Whales has control of the leg. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Whales connects with a nice short shot to Diggins's temple. Diggins avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Whales. Diggins holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Whales working the head and body with strikes. Diggins wants to get back to his feet. Diggins tries to get to full guard but Whales has control of the leg. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Whales lands a nice short elbow. Whales tries to pass to full mount but Diggins defends it. Whales lands a big shot. Whales scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Diggins is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Whales scores with a couple of nice shots. Whales seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diggins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Whales wants to free his trapped foot but Diggins is holding on for dear life with his legs. Whales is taking a breather. Diggins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Whales thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Diggins wants to get back to his feet. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Whales takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Whales slips a nice elbow through Diggins's hands, connecting with Diggins's forehead. Diggins is not content to let Whales control the position. Whales content to control rather than advance. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Patrick Whales showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

and Diggins counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Whales is lucky that one didn't land flush. Whales uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Diggins avoids the body shot from Whales.
Whales shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Whales stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diggins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whales stopping the sweep attempt from Diggins. Whales is working Diggins over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Whales wants to control from the top but Diggins keeps moving. Diggins wants to sweep here but Whales controlling him for the moment. Whales trying to control but Diggins is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diggins keeping full guard, as Whales tries to pass. Diggins working a defensive guard here.
Whales has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Whales!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diggins on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Patrick Whales seems to be getting the better of the standup. Whales lands a nice hook to Diggins's body. Diggins takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Diggins slips under a jab from Whales. Whales fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Whales throws out a loose jab but Diggins uses good head movement to avoid it. Nice takedown defense from Diggins. No joy for Whales on that attempt. Franklin Diggins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Whales. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Whales pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whales with a body punch. A glancing blow. Whales shoots in for a takedown but Diggins shows good takedown defense. Whales avoids the head kick by Diggins.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Whales. Franklin Diggins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! A jab lands there for Whales. Whales misses with a looping right. Whales throws a lazy uppercut
and Diggins counters with a big head kick but Whales shrugs it off. Diggins misses the jab.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A punch lands to the side of Diggins 's head but he takes it in his stride. Whales pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Whales clobbers Diggins with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Whales lands a nice looking body shot.
Diggins walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Patrick Whales seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Whales swings for the body but Diggins moves out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Diggins stuffs the takedown. Whales dips to his left and cracks Diggins with an uppercut!
And that's the end of the fight! Patrick Whales comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Whales has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
