PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ripper Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elpaxio Shazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ripper Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elpaxio Shazar!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Shazar circles away.
Jones tries to clinch there but Shazar circles away.
Shazar misses with a wild combination.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shazar paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jones is looking to clinch but Shazar is avoiding it.
Shazar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Jones tries to clinch but Shazar moves out of range.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shazar swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt - Shazar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Shazar moves into range and clinches up with Jones.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shazar gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Shazar is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Shazar winds up and cracks Jones with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Shazar postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Jones to stand up.

Shazar knocks Jones to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?


Jones is rocked!


It looks like Ripper Jones has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shazar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jones tries to clinch
and Shazar counters with a body kick.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Shazar connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shazar buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Shazar gets a takedown into half guard.

Shazar stands up from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shazar forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
Jones seems to have got his legs back now.

Shazar works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Shazar throwing strikes but missing.
Jones has a closed guard, preventing Shazar from standing up.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shazar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shazar lands a couple of elbows.
Shazar is working Jones over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Shazar passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Jones manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Shazar scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Jones manages to mount him!
Jones looking to control but Shazar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Shazar wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
Shazar is in all sorts of trouble here.
Shazar wants to get back to his feet.
Shazar is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.

Jones is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Shazar can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Jones wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jones is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Shazar is surviving well by controlling Jones's body position as best he can.
Shazar is looking to get to half guard.
Jones wants to control the pace but Shazar is squirming around nicely.
Jones manages to capitalize on a mistake by Shazar to take his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Shazar controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elpaxio Shazar dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ripper Jones's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shazar lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Shazar misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Ripper Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shazar circles away from the clinch attempt

and Shazar counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Shazar turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Shazar manages to end up in side control.
Jones tries to bench press Shazar off him but Shazar keeps the position.

Jones is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Elpaxio Shazar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Shazar counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shazar.

Jones has his feet on Shazar's thighs here. He's pushed Shazar off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Shazar screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
