Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jose Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rolando Souto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Souto has chosen Jorge Quintero - 300 violin orchestra as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 22 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Gomez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rolando Souto!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gomez forces Souto back against the cage and clinches.

Souto gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gomez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Gomez wants to get back to full guard.
Souto is thwarting Gomez's attempts to control the position.

Gomez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Souto pulls his head out easily.

Gomez wants to control but Souto is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Souto is keen to just control but Gomez is a slippery customer.

Souto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Souto is putting a hurting on Gomez here, landing some big shots from side control.
Souto wants to take a breather but Gomez manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Souto.
Souto looking to sit in guard and control but Gomez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Souto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gomez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gomez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gomez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Souto has Gomez pulled in close to control his posture.

Gomez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gomez wants to pass the guard but Souto is keeping the position.
Souto tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gomez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gomez wants it to stay on the feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gomez wanted to stand there but Souto had control of the position.

Jose Gomez has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Gomez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Souto sprawls well. Souto wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gomez gets slowly back to his feet.
Souto works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Gomez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Souto for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Souto has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Souto avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Souto with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gomez to score with a decent uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Souto shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Souto on the side of the head.

Souto tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Souto is pressed up against the cage. Gomez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Souto down to the mat. Souto avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Souto throws out a loose jab but Gomez uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gomez wants the takedown. Souto is fighting it off but Gomez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Souto's guard against the cage.

Souto fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gomez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Gomez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Souto is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Souto tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Gomez prevents the takedown attempt.
Gomez takes a knee right on the jaw!
Souto tries a knee to the head but Gomez blocks it.
Souto keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Gomez's efforts to push away.
Gomez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Souto gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Gomez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gomez throws a hook to the side of Souto's head but Souto sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Souto misses with a takedown attempt - Gomez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gomez stuffs the takedown attempt from Souto. Souto gets slowly back to his feet.

Gomez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Souto to the ground. Gomez is now in Souto's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gomez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jose Gomez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gomez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
