The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hess avoids the head kick by Phantalee.
Hess throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Phantalee tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hess is in Phantalee's guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Phantalee throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hess uses it to pass to side control.
Hess is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Phantalee has escaped the position, nice work there. Phantalee tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hess wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Hess tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Hess jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Phantalee manages to avoid the submission attempt. Hess tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hess has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Phantalee is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Phantalee is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hess is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Phantalee sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Hess is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Phantalee sees it coming and defends easily. Phantalee tries to roll over but Hess keeps him under control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Phantalee is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Hess has latched onto it... Big trouble! Hess pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Phantalee is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Hess!
