Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Woodson Grimley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerard Drogba! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grimley on the wrong end of a nice hook. Drogba feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Grimleys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Drogba connects with a nice looking jab.
Grimley stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Drogba. Grimley closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Drogba misses with a knee strike.
Grimley has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Drogba is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Drogba lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Grimley is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Drogba pulls him back up using the underhooks. Drogba trying to land knees to the body.
Drogba with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Drogba scores with a shot to the side of Grimley's head. Grimley tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Woodson Grimley. That's going to take a lot out of him. Drogba tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Grimley avoids it. Drogba landing knees to the head.
Grimley is rocked!
It looks like Woodson Grimley has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Grimley tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Drogba just stands there and leans against the cage. Oh Grimley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Grimley's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Grimley goes for a takedown in the clinch but Drogba prevents it.
Drogba lands a nice uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drogba has Grimley pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Grimley is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Drogba - that's hurt Grimley badly! Oh, another knee lands and Grimley is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Grimley doesn't seem to be complaining.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Gerard Drogba! Gerard Drogba took to the microphone after his victory and thanked his sponsors, Vitality for their support in the buildup to the fight.
