Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jin Woo Kim! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sanay Ulrik! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Ulrik. Kim fails with the takedown and Ulrik moves into the clinch. Kim has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ulrik after a bit of a struggle. Kim wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ulrik breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kim shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Woo Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ulrik gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ulrik jumps into guard, dragging Kim to the mat.
Ulrik is trying to keep Kim in close.
Kim postures up in Ulrik's guard and throws a big left but Ulrik blocks it. Ulrik tries to land a sweep but no joy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kim slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Kim working the ground and pound. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ulrik tries to bench press Kim off him but Kim keeps the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kim wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ulrik, who protects the arm well. Kim lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ulrik down.
It looks like Sanay Ulrik has been cut. Ulrik is not content to let Kim control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kim postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Kim tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kim has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Ulrik really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kim. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kim is working to tighten is grip on Ulrik's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Ulrik has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Kim is really squeezing tight and eventually Ulrik passes out! Kim breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
