PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Omar Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Spartan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Torres comes to the cage accompanied by Tom Erba - Bring it on. Leo Spartan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Spartan.

Torres closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Torres is looking to advance position but Spartan won't allow it.

Spartan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Torres tries to avoid it but Spartan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Torres to the ground. Torres escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Torres's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Torres takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That was a close round but I would say that Omar Torres will probably get the nod.

Spartan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Torres avoids it really well and circles away.

Torres throws a hook to the side of Spartan's head but Spartan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Spartan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Torres's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Spartan connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Torres scrambles back to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Spartan tries to lock up and control but Torres gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Leo Spartan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Spartan moves into range and connects with a jab.
Torres closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spartan circles away.
The fighters circle momentarily. Spartan darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Torres throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spartan's waist but Spartan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Torres off to one side.

Spartan connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Torres circles away from the clinch attempt.

I would just about give that final round to Leo Spartan.
