PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peanut Butter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peanut Butter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Paul!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul tries to score a power double leg takedown but Butter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Paul somewhat.
Paul fails to land with a series of punches.

Butter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Paul can't do much from the bottom here.
Butter tries to score with some ground and pound. Paul controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Butter wants to control but Paul is keeping him busy.
Butter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Butter tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Butter decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Butter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Butter tries to score a body lock takedown but Paul shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Butter is pushing Paul up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Paul breaks from the clinch.
Paul fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Paul fails with the takedown.
Paul moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Peanut Butter has been cut.

Butter shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Butter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Paul is just riding it out for now. Butter eventually gives up the hold.
Paul wants to control but Butter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Paul is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Butter is staying active.
Paul tries to get to full guard but Butter has control of the leg.

Butter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Paul keeps working.

Butter is looking to take a break and control but Paul is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Peanut Butter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Butter circles away from the clinch attempt.

Butter forces Paul back against the cage and clinches.

Butter wants the takedown. Paul is fighting it off but Butter persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Paul's guard against the cage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Butter controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Butter is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Paul.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Paul has picked Butter up - he's going for a ride! Paul dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Paul throws a strike but Butter avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Paul wants to get up but he can't break Butter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Butter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Peanut Butter.

Paul shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Butter as he avoids it easily.
Paul tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Butter manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Butter stuffs the takedown attempt from Paul. Paul gets slowly back to his feet.

Butter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Paul.

Paul shoots in looking for a takedown but Butter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Paul's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Butter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Paul fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Butter avoids it really well and circles away.

Paul tries to clinch but Butter is having none of it.
Paul moves in looking to clinch but Butter pushes him off.

Butter will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Paul up against the cage.

Paul ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Paul no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

John Paul has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peanut Butter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Paul is working an open guard so Butter takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Peanut Butter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Butter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
