The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves lands a nice shot that snaps Silva's head back.
Silva lands a head kick that stumbles Alves and the fighters go to the mat.
Alves is rocked!
Alves can't keep his opponent in guard - Silva advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Oh Alves is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Alves tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Silva in particular looking to stall.
Alves seems to have got his legs back now.
Alves is trying to control but Silva passes into side control!

Silva decides to stand up, so the ref orders Alves to his feet.

Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Silva counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Silva.

Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alves's waist but Alves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alves is on top in guard.

Silva wants to control from the top but Alves keeps moving.

Silva gets to his feet - Alves follows without any prompting.

and Silva counters with an outside leg kick.

Alves misses with an attempted mid kick.
Silva moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Silva ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Silva no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Alves has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Silva is proving hard to escape from.

Alves loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Silva wants to sweep here but Alves controlling him for the moment.
