Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eddie Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robert Henry! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henry throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penn. Henry lands a two punch combo.
Penn looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Penn dives in and grabs Henry's left leg, looking for a takedown. Henry pushes down on Penn's head and hops out. Henry tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Penn was well out of range. Poor timing from Henry. Henry stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Henry wants it to stay on the feet. Henry looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well. Henry throws a left that rocks Penn and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Henry dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Penn regain composure!
Penn is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Penn takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Oh Penn is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Henry landing a few strikes. Penn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Penn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Henry! Henry is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Penn seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Poor strikes thrown by Penn there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Henry tries to reverse the position but Penn maintains control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Penn controlling the position easily from mount. Penn working the ground and pound effectively.
Henry tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn wants to control the pace but Henry is squirming around nicely. Henry tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Penn jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Henry is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Henry and Penn has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Henry is trying to control Penn's posture but Penn avoids it. Henry throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn misses with a head kick.
Penn fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Henry moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Henry goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Henry clobbers Penn with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Robert Henry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Henry tries to bum rush Penn with a series of wild strikes but Penn uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Henry throws a lazy uppercut
and Penn counters with a three punch combo that has Henry backing up. Henry nods at Penn to acknowledge the strikes. Henry throws a good cross that connects.
Henry misses with a looping right. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Henry throws a right and a left that Penn avoids nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Penn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Penn takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Henry misses with the combination.
Henry throws out a powerful jab. Penn fails with the takedown. Henry avoids the head kick by Penn.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Penn scores with a head kick.
A jab-cross combination lands for Henry and sends Penn crashing to the mat! Henry follows him down to the mat - Penn regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet! Henry lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Penn quite badly. Penn pulls Henry in close trying to recover. Henry postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Penn on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Penn doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Henry!
