Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Tapout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tapout has chosen Runaway as his entrance music. Tommy Tapout has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tommy Tapout!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Albert Achterberg and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tapout shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Maia defends it nicely.
Maia misses with a lunging right hand
and Tapout counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tapout shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Maia counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Tapout fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Maia looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Maia throws a hook but Tapout blocks it.
Tapout thows a left - swing and a miss!
Tapout misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Maia uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Tapout has time to react.
Tommy Tapout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maia misses the jab.
Tapout takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Tapout ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
An inside leg kick from Tapout misses.
Maia uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tapout.

Tapout throws a head kick but Maia moves out of range.
Maia throws a body punch but Tapout moves out of range.
Maia fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tapout manages to avoid it.

Tapout bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Tapout is trying to get an arm triangle but Maia is defending well.
Tapout wants to control but Maia is keeping him busy.

Tapout goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Maia rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tapout's guard! Nice work there by Maia!

Tapout has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Tapout is looking for a triangle here but Maia uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The referee asks Maia politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Maia prefers to stall for the moment though.

Maia throws an off balance right hand

and Tapout counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Maia!

Tapout goes for an armbar but Maia turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Maia.

Tapout is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maia is aware though and is defending well.

Tapout has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maia is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tapout is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tapout is looking to control Maia's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tapout avoid being mounted?

Tapout is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maia's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maia's back!

Tapout is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Maia has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Tommy Tapout showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Maia blocks the body kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tapout.
Maia looks to throw the jab but Tapout is out of range.

Tapout clinches.

Maia breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tapout ducks under a wild hook from Maia.
Tommy Tapout is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Tapout dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tapout throws a head kick but Maia moves out of range.
Tapout throws a shot to the body.
Tapout looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tapout tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maia was well out of range. Poor timing from Tapout.

and Tapout counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Maia's guard now.

Maia is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Tapout has his foot on Maia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maia works his way back into a safe position though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well Tapout has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
