The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Materlo fails with a takedown attempt.
Cavanhas misses with a takedown attempt - Materlo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cavanhas tries to stand but Materlo is controlling from the bottom.

Materlo has his hands on Cavanhas's head, controlling the position.
Materlo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cavanhas wants to stand but Materlo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

We're going to have a standup here because Michalo Materlo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cavanhas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cavanhas stuffs the takedown attempt from Materlo. Materlo gets slowly back to his feet.
Materlo looks for a takedown but Cavanhas sprawls well.
Cavanhas wants to clinch
and Materlo counters with a flying knee. Nice.
No joy there for Cavanhas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Materlo has Cavanhas up against the cage in a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cavanhas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Materlo's guard.
Materlo is staying active underneath Cavanhas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Materlo is looking to get back to full guard here but Cavanhas has managed to pass to side control instead.
Materlo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Materlo is breathing heavily.

Cavanhas wants to control but Materlo is keeping him busy.

Cavanhas works to advance to full mount. Materlo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cavanhas raining down hammerfists from mount.
Cavanhas trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ari Cavanhas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Cavanhas shoots in for a takedown but Materlo shows good takedown defense.

Materlo dives in and grabs Cavanhas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cavanhas pushes down on Materlo's head and hops out.

and Materlo counters with a shoot takedown. Cavanhas fights it but they end up in guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Materlo is trying to pull guard but Cavanhas turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Materlo tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cavanhas avoids it.
Cavanhas drags the fight down to the ground.

Materlois looking to pass into half guard but Cavanhas pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Cavanhas is in guard.
Materlo keeping moving, preventing Cavanhas from controlling successfully.

Cavanhas uses his free foot to push down on Materlo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Materlo.

Cavanhas is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Materlo can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Cavanhas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Cavanhas lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Materlo is squirming around, avoiding Cavanhas's attempts to control the action.

Materlo reaches up to try and control the position but Cavanhas seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Materlo rolls and tries to escape and now Cavanhas has his back!

Materlo staying busy and making it hard for Cavanhas to control.
Cavanhas is raining down hard shots and and Materlo has had enough - he's tapped out due to the strikes!
