PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gareth McCall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bang Mamat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCall comes to the cage accompanied by Bobby Darin - Mack The Knife. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gareth McCall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bang Mamat!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mamat throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McCall's waist but McCall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mamat off to one side.
McCall connects with a looping right hand.
McCall throws a sloppy head kick and Mamat moves out of range easily.
No luck for Mamat with that takedown attempt.
McCall dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Mamat. That did some damage!
McCall lands a leg kick that knocks Mamat off balance momentarily.
McCall keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gareth McCall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bang Mamat.
Mamat displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McCall throws out the jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.

McCall gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mamat to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McCall preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McCall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McCall looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mamat stops McCall from standing up.
McCall avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Mamat stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McCall swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McCall looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Mamat wants to control from the top but McCall keeps moving.
McCall on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McCall tries to get out of the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Horrible takedown by Mamat or perhaps it was just good defense by McCall which made him look bad.
McCall scores with a leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A looping hook to the body misses from McCall. Mamat does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCall throws a head kick but Mamat moves out of range.
Gareth McCall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCall throws a nice inside leg kick.
McCall misses with a low kick.
McCall throws a front kick that sends Mamat stumbling back into the cage.
Mamat looks winded!

McCall rushes Mamat and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
McCall is pressed up against the cage. Mamat has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McCall down to the mat. McCall avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
McCall throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Bang Mamat has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McCall drops Mamat with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Mamat looks back up at him and smiles so McCall waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Mamat is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mamat shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McCall sprawls well. McCall wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mamat gets slowly back to his feet.
Mamat is still on wobbly legs! Can McCall finish him?
McCall cracks the inside of Mamat's front leg.
Mamat seems to have recovered his senses.
Mamat sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

McCall rushes Mamat and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
McCall digs a right hand into Mamat's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Mamat's gas tank.
McCall avoiding damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gareth McCall dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bang Mamat's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mamat fails to land the takedown.
McCall moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from McCall. Mamat shrugs it off though.
McCall throws a leg kick which misses Mamat's front leg but catches the back leg as Mamat tries to avoid it.

McCall feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Mamat sprawling to the canvas! Mamat rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can McCall finish him?!
Mamat is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCall chopping away at his opponent's legs.
McCall connects with a solid leg kick.

McCall rushes Mamat and presses him up against the cage.
Mamat wants a takedown but no success here.
McCall comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

McCall drops Mamat onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Mamat is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McCall landing knees to the body.
Mamat's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
McCall unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Mamat! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but McCall is unloading with more strikes now! Mamat drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gareth McCall!
In his post fight interview, Gareth McCall gave a big smile as he said 'For the life of the flesh is in the blood... for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. You have been cleansed, brother. Go now, and sin no more!'.
