Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fassak closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fassak not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Shaughnessy wants to get back to full guard.
Fassak trying to control from Shaughnessy's half guard. Shaughnessy has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Fassak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fassak tries to free his leg and advance position but Shaughnessy is retaining full guard.
Shaughnessy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Shaughnessy is trying to push Fassak away but Fassak has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Fassak is trying to drag Shaughnessy to the mat but Shaughnessy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Shaughnessy manages to break the clinch.
Fassak tries to close the distance and clinch but Shaughnessy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Fassak doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shaughnessy bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Fassak's head backwards.
Shaughnessy throws a predictable looking body shot
and Fassak counters by clinching up.
Fassak is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Shaughnessy gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Shaughnessy struggles to land a body shot inside as Fassak controls his hands.
Fassak has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Shaughnessy after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Al Fassak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A looping hook to the body misses from Shaughnessy. Fassak does a little dance to reset his feet.
Fassak shoots for a double leg takedown but Shaughnessy sprawls well. He's pushed Fassak's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shaughnessy throws a good cross that connects.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fassak moves into range and clinches up with Shaughnessy.

Shaughnessy fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fassak manages to avoid it.

and Shaughnessy cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Fassak manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Shaughnessy on his heels. He'll look to pass Shaughnessy's guard now, I'm sure.

Fassak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shaughnessy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fassak would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Fassak drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Shaughnessy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fassak has Shaughnessy in his guard.
Fassak had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shaughnessy defends it easily.
Shaughnessy wants to get up but he can't break Fassak's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Shaughnessy looking to sit in guard and control but Fassak gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Fassak drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fassak jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Shaughnessy pushes Fassak off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
