PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Wilkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wilkes might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A.. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Douglas Wilkes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, George Davis!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis shoots in and drives through. Wilkes sprawls well.
Wilkes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Wilkes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Davis to the ground. Wilkes is now in Davis's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Davis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wilkes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wilkes trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.
Wilkes connects with a couple of short punches.

Wilkes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wilkes postures up and lands a big shot to Davis's brow.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Davis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wilkes defends it easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Wilkes lands a nice short elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wilkes looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Davis is staying active underneath Wilkes, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Wilkes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Davis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wilkes.

Wilkes is pushing down on Davis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Davis is fighting to maintain full guard but Wilkes has managed to sneak the leg through.
Well, if Wilkes is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wilkes lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Davis has hold of Wilkes's hands but Wilkes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Wilkes dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Wilkes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Davis wants to get back to his feet.
Wilkes scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Davis is trying to get back to full guard.

Wilkes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Davis defends it well.
Wilkes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Wilkes is looking to stall here but Davis recovers full guard.

Wilkes stands and steps away. Davis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Davis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wilkes pulls his head out easily.

Wilkes winds up and cracks Davis with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wilkes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Davis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wilkes somewhat.
Douglas Wilkes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wilkes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davis pinned against the cage. Davis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Davis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wilkes is on top in guard.

Wilkes drops back looking for a leg! Davis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Davis manages to kick Wilkes off! Wilkes jumps back into Davis's guard.

Wilkes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Davis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wilkes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wilkes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wilkes connects with a nice short shot to Davis's temple.

Wilkes working over Davis with some ground and pound. Davis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Wilkes looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Davis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Douglas Wilkes showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Wilkes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
