PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Jass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Banks's choice of entrance music: White and Nerdy. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hugh Jass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Banks!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Jass does no damage.
Jass tries to clinch up.
Jass shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Banks eats them both and turns towards Jass to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Banks loads up on a big right hand but Jass slips the punch.
Jass throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Some wild striking there from Jass.
Banks throws out a loose jab but Jass uses good head movement to avoid it.
Banks takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jass bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Banks blocks a head kick by Jass.
Jass tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Banks ducks under a wild hook from Jass.
Jass walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jass fails to land with a series of punches.
Banks throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jass sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Banks connects with a looping right hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jass keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Banks.
Banks misses with a hook.
Jass moves away from the strike by Banks.
Jass throws a sloppy head kick and Banks moves out of range easily.
Jass misses with a double jab

and Banks counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Banks with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Banks missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Banks is controlling the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Michael Banks wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jass wants to clinch.
Jass slips under a jab.
Jass looks to clinch
and Banks counters with a straight right hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Banks looks to land a left hand but Jass moved out of range nicely.

Banks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jass is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Banks connects with a couple of short punches.
Banks advances position into side control!

Jass wants to get back to his feet but Banks drags him back down.
Banks happy to just control the position for now.

Banks in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Jass pushes Banks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Banks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Jass is letting Banks control him for a moment.
Banks fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Banks's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Banks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Banks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Banks is looking to take a break and control but Jass is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Banks prevents Jass from escaping the position.
Jass prevents Banks from improving position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Banks dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Jass throws a left and a right that both miss
and Banks counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jass ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Banks lands a glancing blow to the side of Jass's head.
Banks changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jass tries to avoid it but Banks manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jass to the ground. Jass escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hugh Jass seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jass connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Banks shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Banks passes the guard and advances to mount!
Banks sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Jass is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Banks trying to control but Jass is having none of it.
Jass is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Banks punishing his opponent with strikes.
Banks pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Banks working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Banks postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Jass looks a forlorn figure.
Banks sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Michael Banks has got the better of the ground game so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Let's hope that Banks has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Jass has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Jass holding both Banks 's hands and preventing any damage.

Oh Jass is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
