Spahn has chosen Slap my elbow as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nguyen gets caught napping as Spahn dives in and scores a takedown. Nguyen manages to retain guard.

Nguyen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spahn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Spahn trying to control but Nguyen is working from the bottom.
Spahn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nguyen is keeping the position for now.

Nguyen is looking for a triangle but Spahn pushes his legs off easily.

Nguyen looking for a guillotine here but Spahn defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nguyen throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Spahn escapes and throws Nguyen's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Spahn scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Nguyen to see if he's OK.

It looks like Luan Nguyen has been cut.

Spahn tries to advance to mount but Nguyen denies him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nguyen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Spahn is working Nguyen over with some ground and pound from side control.
Spahn in side control lands a decent elbow.
Nguyen sneaks back into half guard.
Spahn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Spahn lands a nice short elbow.

Nguyen wants to get back to full guard but Spahn has passed into side control.

Nguyen is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Spahn has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Nguyen!
Nguyen tries to reverse the position but Spahn maintains control.

Spahn looking for a guillotine from mount but Nguyen is having none of it.
BOOM! Spahn connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Luan Nguyen's cut is getting worse.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Luan Nguyen's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

In his post fight interview, Rik Spahn started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
