Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ramon Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bobby Mercer! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mercer showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Diaz.
Mercer scores with a crisp jab that stopped Diaz in his tracks. Diaz fails to land the takedown. Mercer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Diaz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Diaz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ramon Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mercer. Diaz throws a head kick that misses. Mercer misses with a combination
and Diaz counters with a thumping low kick. Mercer scores with a jab to the body. Diaz throws a shot from downtown. Mercer moves away and avoids it. Mercer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Mercer keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Diaz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Diaz is breathing heavily. Diaz prevents Mercer from getting back to his feet. Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Mercer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mercer is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Diaz dives into side control.
Mercer is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Diaz has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mercer is looking to reverse the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The ground and pound from Diaz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Mercer lands a jab-cross combination. Diaz throws a combination that misses and Mercer counters with a left and a right that stings Diaz. Bobby Mercer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Diaz thows a body kick. Mercer tries to catch it but that hurt him. Diaz tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Mercer counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Diaz looks to land a body kick but Mercer moved away. Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Mercer shows good takedown defense. Diaz tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Mercer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mercer scores with a hook to the body. Diaz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Mercer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Mercer is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Diaz throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Mercer taking shots to the head. Diaz avoids the attempt from Mercer to control. Diaz thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Diaz is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mercer has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mercer! Diaz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mercer controls the pace. Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ramon Diaz dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Diaz shoots and misses and Mercer counters with a left and a right that stings Diaz. Diaz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Diaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mercer keeps working. Diaz escapes and gets back to his feet. Diaz takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Ramon Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mercer swinging wilding here.
Mercer throws the left hand but Diaz avoids the punch easily. Mercer is breathing heavily. Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Mercer tries to sprawl out of it but Diaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mercer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Diaz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer misses with a few strikes there.
Diaz cracks the inside of Mercer's front leg. It's a brutal combination of punches from Diaz! Mercer is backing up but he can't get away as Diaz lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Mercer and ends the fight. Great knockout.
