The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza tries for a takedown but Macena sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Souza lands with a slapping head kick.
Macena gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
so Souza counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Macena throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Souza tries to free his leg and advance position but Macena is retaining full guard.
Macena wants to stand but Souza is controlling the position.
Macena keeping moving, preventing Souza from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Souza trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Thiago Souza has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Macena shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Souza's guard.
Macena is looking to work some ground and pound but Souza has wrist control.
Macena missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Souza looking for a triangle here. Macena is fighting it but it looks tight! Souza pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Macena is tapping out - this one is all over!
