Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hong Man Choi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takumi Suzuki! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Suzuki looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Choi shoots for a double leg takedown but Suzuki sprawls well. He's pushed Choi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Choi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Suzuki. Suzuki takes one on the button. Nice takedown defense from Suzuki. No joy for Choi on that attempt. Choi moves out of range as Suzuki strikes. Suzuki swats away the attempt to clinch by Choi. Suzuki fails with a takedown attempt. Suzuki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Takumi Suzuki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Choi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Suzuki throws a low kick but it's checked well by Choi. Choi stuffs the takedown attempt from Suzuki. Suzuki gets slowly back to his feet. Hong Man Choi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takumi Suzuki. Choi fails to land the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Choi gets the takedown into side control. Suzuki looks gassed! Choi trying to control the action but Suzuki is working from the bottom. Suzuki struggling a bit here. Choi stands up and beckons Suzuki to his feet. Suzuki moves away from the strike by Choi. Suzuki paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Choi fails to land the takedown. Suzuki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Choi holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Suzuki stands up and beckons Choi to join him on the feet. Choi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Suzuki throws out the jab. The fight stays on the outside here - Choi looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Choi connects with the punch. Suzuki throws a jab when Choi was well out of range. Jab from Choi. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Suzuki fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Choi gets a clinch. Choi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Suzuki pulls his leg out and moves away.
Suzuki thows a left - swing and a miss! Suzuki dips to his left and cracks Choi with an uppercut! Suzuki instigates a clinch. Suzuki lands a shot to the body. Choi letting Suzuki take a breather here. Suzuki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Suzuki scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Suzuki fails in his attempt to clinch. Choi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Suzuki throws out the jab. Suzuki closes this distance looking for a takedown but Choi circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Suzuki walks into a jab. This has been an exciting period of action! Suzuki misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Suzuki tries to clinch up. Suzuki scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Suzuki shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Choi slips a straight right by Suzuki. Choi misses with a double jab.
A head kick misses from Suzuki. Choi tries to clinch there but Suzuki circles away.
Choi drops Suzuki with a right and a left! Choi comes rushing in but Suzuki regains his composure and manages to keep Choi in guard.
Suzuki is rocked! Choi is stalling in the full guard. Suzuki is still in real trouble! Can Choi finish him? Choi working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Suzuki's head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Suzuki looking for a sweep. Not yet Suzuki, not yet. Suzuki seems to have recovered his senses. Suzuki is trying to keep Choi in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hong Man Choi dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Suzuki tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Choi paws at him with a jab and circles away. Suzuki looks to land a right hand but Choi moved out of range. Suzuki tries to clinch but Choi is having none of it. Suzuki might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Choi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nice takedown defense from Choi. No joy for Suzuki on that attempt. Choi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Suzuki controls Choi momentarily but Choi frees himself. Choi decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Suzuki, up you get! Suzuki slips a jab from Choi. Hong Man Choi is winning the standup battle so far. Suzuki shoots in looking for a takedown. Choi tries to sprawl out of it but Suzuki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Choi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Choi wants to clinch. Suzuki is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Suzuki slips a jab and a cross from Choi.
Choi throws the left hand but Suzuki avoids the punch easily. Choi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Suzuki is fending him off so far but Choi persists. Nope, Suzuki circles away and we're back to standing. Hong Man Choi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Suzuki throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Choi to counter with a crisp jab. Choi misses with a jab, cross combination.
Choi uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Suzuki. Suzuki jabbing away but nothing is landing. Suzuki ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Suzuki throws a lazy right hand but Choi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Choi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Suzuki! Choi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Suzuki is looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Choi is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Suzuki is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Choi lands a heavy elbow. Suzuki wants to hold on but Choi pushes him away. Choi lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Suzuki is squirming around, avoiding Choi's attempts to control the action. Choi landing strikes, looking to finish! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Choi postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Suzuki looks a forlorn figure.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Choi wants to control the pace but Suzuki is squirming around nicely. Suzuki wants to control but Choi is having none of it. Hong Man Choi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Choi looking to control but Suzuki is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Suzuki working to try and regain half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Choi scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Choi tries to control but Suzuki wriggling away. Suzuki is in all sorts of trouble here.
Choi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Choi looking to control and managing it successfully.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Hong Man Choi just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Choi throws a combination. Suzuki tries to block but a couple of punches get through. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Choi thuds his right hand into Suzuki's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Suzuki tries to clinch but Choi is having none of it. No joy there for Suzuki, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Hong Man Choi dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Suzuki. Suzuki tries to clinch there but Choi circles away.

Suzuki throws an overhand right that lands on Choi's shoulder, as Choi tries to avoid the shot. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Some wild striking there from Suzuki.
Choi wants to clinch up but Suzuki keeps it at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Choi bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Suzuki's head backwards. Choi is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Suzuki fails with an attempt to clinch.
Suzuki misses with a straight right. Choi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Suzuki's waist but Suzuki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Choi off to one side. Nice takedown defense from Suzuki. No joy for Choi on that attempt. Suzuki stuffs the takedown attempt from Choi. Choi gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hong Man Choi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Choi avoids a punch combination nicely.

It looks like Takumi Suzuki has been cut. Choi decides to take the fight back to the feet. Choi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Suzuki tries to avoid it but Choi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Suzuki to the ground. Suzuki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Choi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Choi prevents Suzuki from improving his position. Choi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Suzuki is staying active underneath Choi, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Suzuki tries to kick Choi off but Choi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Choi lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Suzuki wants to control but Choi is keeping busy.
Suzuki keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Choi winds up and cracks Suzuki with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Choi stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Suzuki misses with an uppercut. Choi saw that one coming.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Choi lands with an uppercut that bounces Suzuki off the cage and back into rage. Suzuki will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Suzuki rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Choi moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Choi is looking to clinch but Suzuki is avoiding it.
Choi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Choi trying to control but Suzuki is having none of it. Choi looking to finish Suzuki with some ground and pound. This is bad for Suzuki! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Suzuki can do anything to dispel that myth. Choi landing strikes from the mount and Suzuki is in trouble!

Choi has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Suzuki's face.

Takumi Suzuki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Suzuki gets back to half guard. Suzuki wants to improve his position but Choi is controlling well.
Choi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Suzuki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Suzuki is looking to control Choi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Suzuki avoid being mounted? Choi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Choi is tying to control. Suzuki wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that's the end of the fight! Hong Man Choi showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Choi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
