Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Willy Coffey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Menzies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Willy Coffey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Menzies!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coffey tries to clinch but Menzies moves out of range.

Coffey wants the takedown. Menzies is fighting it off but Coffey persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Menzies's guard against the cage.

Coffey ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Coffey no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Menzies has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Coffey is proving hard to escape from.
Coffey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Menzies shoots in looking for a takedown but Coffey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Menzies's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A looping hook to the body misses from Menzies. Coffey does a little dance to reset his feet.

Willy Coffey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Menzies.

Coffey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Menzies tries to avoid it but Coffey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Menzies to the ground. Menzies escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Coffey moves in looking to clinch but Menzies pushes him off.
Menzies shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Coffey eats them both and turns towards Menzies to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Menzies lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Coffey at a distance.

Menzies keeps the fight on the outside.

Menzies shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Menzies showed some decent athleticism there.
Menzies wants to pass the guard but Coffey is defending well.
Menzies takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Menzies is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Coffey defends it well.
