Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
32 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Mendez! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andy Claymore! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Claymore thows a leg kick but Mendez checks it and Mendez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Mendez looks for a takedown but Claymore sprawls well. Claymore misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mendez.
Mendez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mendez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Claymore is looking for a sweep. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mendez working the head and body with strikes. Claymore tries to bench press Mendez off him but Mendez keeps the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Claymore looking for a sweep but Mendez has passed into full mount! Oh no! Claymore really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez looking to finish Claymore with some ground and pound. This is bad for Claymore! Mendez looking to secure an arm triangle but Claymore defends it well. Mendez pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Mendez raining down shots from the mount!
Claymore is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Mendez controlling the pace for now. Claymore is still in real trouble! Can Mendez finish him? Mendez unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Claymore wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Mendez celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
