PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Warren has chosen God's gonna cut you down by Jonny Cash as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dexter Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reggie Warren!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Warren rushes Morgan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Morgan tries to circle away but Warren has him pinned against the cage.

Warren lands a takedown into guard.
Morgan trying to keep a closed guard but Warren is proving a slippery customer.
Warren throws a big right hand that misses.
Warren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morgan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Warren with a flurry of punches that miss.

Morgan had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Warren defends it easily.
Warren missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Warren trying to control the position from guard on top but Morgan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Warren chips away with some ground and pound.

Warren won't allow Morgan to sweep him here.
Warren throwing strikes but missing.

Warren is working Morgan over with some ground and pound from side control.
Morgan seems a little lost for a moment, as Warren dominates the positioning.
Warren has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Warren tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Warren has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Warren cracks Morgan with a big right hand but Morgan just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Warren misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Morgan is looking for a sweep.

Morgan tries to buck Warren off but Warren is having none of it.
Morgan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Morgan has hold of Warren's hands but Warren slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Morgan is trying to maintain the position but Warren is very close to passing his half guard.
Morgan tries to get to full guard but Warren has control of the leg.
Morgan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Warren scores with a couple of nice shots.

Morgan manages to get to full guard.

Warren throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Warren slips nicely into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Warren works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Warren tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Morgan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Warren throws a nice inside leg kick.
Warren steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Morgan. That one must have hurt.
Morgan stalks Warren and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Warren's face. Warren staggers backwards, shaken.
Morgan moves out of range of the strikes.
Morgan tries for a takedown but Warren sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Morgan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Warren uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Morgan.
Warren stuffs the takedown.
Warren thows a body shot but no joy.
Warren lands a two punch combo.

Warren scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Morgan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Warren scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are battling for position here. Morgan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Warren got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morgan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Warren has managed to get both his arms back between Morgan's legs - danger averted.

Morgan is trying to keep Warren in close.

Warren is looking to work some ground and pound but Morgan has wrist control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morgan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Morgan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Warren is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Morgan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Morgan has escaped and now he's on top!

Warren looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Warren working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Morgan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Morgan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Morgan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Warren is looking to improve his position.
Morgan trying to control the action but Warren is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Morgan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Warren keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

A close second round but Reggie Warren will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Warren looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Morgan!

Morgan is trying to escape the mount.
Warren pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Morgan is working to get back to half guard.
Warren fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Warren is in the full mount, landing strikes.


It looks like Dexter Morgan has been cut.
Warren breaks from Morgan's wrist control and lands an elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Morgan takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Warren's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
