Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, CJ Wilkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Louis Iii Severson! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A slapping leg kick lands for Wilkins.
Severson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wilkins paws at him with a jab and circles away. Severson lands a nice looking kick to the body. Wilkins takes a step back to recover. Severson checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Severson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Wilkins. Wilkins obviously looking to wear him down.
Wilkins lands a nice leg kick that just misses Severson's sensitive parts. Severson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Wilkins misses the shot to the body. Severson blocks a head kick by Wilkins.
Wilkins misses with an uppercut. Severson saw that one coming. Severson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wilkins swats him away and circles back towards the center. Wilkins shoots for a takedown but Severson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Severson clinches with his opponent.
Severson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Wilkins avoids it. Severson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Wilkins tries a body shot but Severson blocks it.
Wilkins tries to work over Severson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Severson putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Wilkins in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. The referee is keeping an eye on Wilkins - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
That's one minute gone in the round. Severson throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Wilkins blocks it with crossed arms. Wilkins drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Severson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Severson obliges. Nice body punch from Wilkins - that landed with a thud.
Wilkins tries to throw a body punch but Severson avoids it by throwing Wilkins back against the cage. Wilkins struggles to land a body shot inside as Severson controls his hands.
Severson lands a hook to the side of the head. Wilkins tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Severson's elbow. Severson tries to land a knee to the head but Wilkins blocks with his arms.
Wilkins breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wilkins throws a leg kick but Severson moved away. Wilkins misses with a leg kick and Severson counters with a big head kick but Wilkins shrugs it off. This has been an exciting period of action! Severson tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Wilkins counters with a good low kick that Severson was not able to check. Wilkins lands a leg kick that knocks Severson off balance momentarily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Severson is looking to clinch but Wilkins is avoiding it.
Wilkins throws a sloppy head kick and Severson moves out of range easily. Severson blocks a leg kick. A solid body kick from Severson. Both fighters circling a little - Severson finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Severson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wilkins paws at him with a jab and circles away. Some wild striking there from Severson.
The fight stays on the outside here - Severson looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Severson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Wilkins chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Wilkins swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wilkins lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Severson moves out of range as Wilkins throws a body kick.
Wilkins fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Severson sprawls well initially but Wilkins persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Wilkins looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Severson looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. CJ Wilkins wasn't doing enough on the ground. Wilkins scores with a kick to the body.
Severson wants to clinch. Wilkins gets a double leg takedown into Severson's guard. Wilkins looking to control the position here, rather than advance. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that CJ Wilkins will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Severson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Wilkins just misses with a punch to the body.
Good shot there by Severson. Severson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Edward Louis Iii Severson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A slapping leg kick lands for Wilkins.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Wilkins shoots for a takedown but Severson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Severson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Severson moves out of range of the leg kick from Wilkins. Severson throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Wilkins pushes Severson away with a front kick. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Severson tries to clinch up but Wilkins circles away and keeps his distance. An inside leg kick lands from Wilkins. Wilkins shoots in for a takedown but Severson shows good takedown defense. Severson moves out of range of the leg kick from Wilkins. Severson tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wilkins takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Severson blocks a leg kick. Wilkins scores a takedown into full mount! Wilkins sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A nice elbow there by Wilkins. Severson squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wilkins controlling his opponent. Wilkins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Wilkins is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Severson can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Wilkins controlling from the full mount. Wilkins has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We're going to have a standup here because CJ Wilkins wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Wilkins attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wilkins connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Wilkins tries a low kick but Severson avoids it. Wilkins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Wilkins lands with a thumping leg kick.
Severson moves out of range of the leg kick from Wilkins. Severson's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. A chopping leg kick lands by Wilkins. Wilkins closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Severson did well to prevent Wilkins getting side control. Wilkins performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Wilkins seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Severson for as long as he can get away with.
That's one minute gone in the round. Severson won't allow Wilkins to pass to mount. CJ Wilkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Wilkins throws a lazy head kick and Severson counters with a left to the body. Severson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Wilkins throws out the jab. Severson throws a head kick that Wilkins semi-blocks.
Wilkins fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Severson is out of range. Wilkins swings away with a leg kick that misses. Severson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Severson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wilkins, pushing him back against the cage. Wilkins tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Severson misses with a knee to the head. Severson effectively controlling the action here.

Severson with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wilkins digs a right hand into Severson's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Severson's gas tank. Wilkins misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Severson.

Wilkins lands a body shot. Wilkins is leaning against Severson and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Severson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Severson unloads a knee to the mid-section. Wilkins lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Severson managing to block the knees to the body from Wilkins.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilkins is working for takedown but Severson is calmly controlling the position for now. A right handed body shot lands from Wilkins.
Wilkins is looking to control Severson's arms but Severson gets an underhook and turns him. Now Wilkins has his back to the cage. Severson landing knees to the body.
Nice body punch from Wilkins. Wilkins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Severson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Wilkins lands an elbow inside that Severson shrugs off. Knees to the body from Severson.

Wilkins letting Severson take a breather here. Wilkins has clasped his hands together around Severson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Severson pushes Wilkins away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Wilkins gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Edward Louis Iii Severson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Severson being controlled for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Severson is pushing Wilkins's head away, looking to escape. Wilkins manages to hold on to the position though. Wilkins tries to move to mount but Severson blocks the move with his legs. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Wilkins moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
And that's the end of the fight! CJ Wilkins showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wilkins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
