PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Jake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mariusz Kowal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jake comes into the arena with The Way of the Fist blaring out of the sound system. Mariusz Kowal will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mariusz Kowal!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kowal looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Jake is working an open guard so Kowal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Kowal throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jake tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kowal is in Jake 's guard.
Kowal missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jake keeping moving, preventing Kowal from controlling successfully.

Jake is working an open guard so Kowal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Kowal shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Jake has hold of Kowal's hands but Kowal slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Kowal tries to pass to full mount but Jake defends it.
Kowal not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Jake is trying to stand.
Jake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kowal not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kowal is pressing down on Jake 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jake is holding on for now.
Kowal keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Kowal tries to pass to full mount but Jake defends it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mariusz Kowal hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Jake looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kowal misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Kowal shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kowal showed some decent athleticism there.

Kowal uses his free foot to push down on Jake 's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jake .

Kowal has control of Jake 's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jake regains control of the situation pretty easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Kowal drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kowal is looking to take a break and control but Jake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kowal stands up and beckons Jake to his feet.

Kowal drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Kowal gets to his feet - Jake follows without any prompting.

Jake utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Kowal throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kowal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kowal moves nicely into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mariusz Kowal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Kowal is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kowal is pressing down on Jake 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jake is holding on for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kowal might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jake kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mariusz Kowal wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kowal closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Jake looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kowal is one step ahead there.

Mariusz Kowal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kowal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
