Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ryan O Reily! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kid Funkyama! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Funkyama closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Funkyama keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. O Reily jabbing away but nothing is landing. A telegraphed takedown attempt from O Reily is defended easily by Funkyama. O Reily has his takedown stuffed and Funkyama counters with a nice double leg into half guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan O Reily. That's going to take a lot out of him. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Funkyama lands strikes from half guard. Nice strikes from Funkyama there. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. O Reily is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Funkyama's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Funkyama's back! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Funkyama holding both O Reily 's hands and preventing any damage. Funkyama defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
O Reily has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Funkyama has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
That's one minute gone in the round. O Reily doesn't have the hooks in and Funkyama manages to turn into his guard.
O Reily has his foot on Funkyama's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Funkyama works his way back into a safe position though. Funkyama really doesn't want to stay on the ground with O Reily. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Funkyama tries to free his leg and advance position but O Reily is retaining full guard. Funkyama lands a couple of decent looking shots. Funkyama throwing strikes but missing. Funkyama is looking to work some ground and pound but O Reily has wrist control. O Reily is looking to sinch up a triangle. Funkyama throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to O Reily's body to avoid the submission. O Reily has instead reached around Funkyama's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! O Reily arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ryan O Reily! An out of breath Ryan O Reily thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
