The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michaels throws a leg kick but Donati sees it coming and moves out of range.
Michaels misses with a body shot.

Donati throws a hook but Michaels avoids it easily.
Jab, jab by Donati - just one landing.
Donati takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Michaels lands a slapping body shot.
Donati misses with a right hand
and Donati takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Virgil Donati seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Donati takes one to the chin there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Donati swings away with a body shot that misses
and Michaels counters with a nice low kick that buckles Donati's knee momentarily.
Donati thuds a left hand into Michaels's body.
Michaels lands with a good body shot.
Michaels uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Donati.
Donati misses with a looping right.
Donati throws a shot from downtown. Michaels moves away and avoids it.

Michaels slips a jab and a cross from Donati.

Donati misses with a left hand
enabling Michaels to counter with a crisp jab.
Donati wants to clinch
and Michaels counters with a huge left! Donati is in big trouble! He's backing up but Michaels isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Donati from any more damage. A dominating finish by Michaels!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Karl Michaels! Karl Michaels retains his light heavyweight title!
