Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Randy Callaway! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greissi Jiorgite! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Callaway gets caught napping as Jiorgite dives in and scores a takedown. Callaway manages to retain guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jiorgite pushing down on Callaway's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Jiorgite is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Callaway is just riding it out for now. Jiorgite eventually gives up the hold. Jiorgite is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Callaway sees it coming and defends easily. Jiorgite thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Jiorgite is looking for a kimura but Callaway is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jiorgite to get the leverage. That's one minute gone in the round. Jiorgite missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Callaway is defending against the submission attempts here by Jiorgite.
Jiorgite seems to be working for a kimura but Callaway defends the submission attempt. Jiorgite frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Jiorgite has hold of Callaway's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Callaway manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Callaway wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Jiorgite.
Callaway takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
It looks like Randy Callaway has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jiorgite wants to finish this one by submission but Callaway is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jiorgite. Callaway is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Jiorgite locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Callaway is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Greissi Jiorgite! Greissi Jiorgite decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
