Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bruce Harris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gaige Raymond! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harris shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Raymond is trying to defend but Harris finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Harris is trying to control. Raymond wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Raymond has hold of Harris's hands but Harris slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Harris misses with a head shot. Raymond uses the momentum to regain guard. Harris postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Harris throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Raymond works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Raymond is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Harris defends well. Harris is in close to Raymond's body, working some short punches and elbows. Harris content to stall in guard here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Raymond is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Harris defends well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harris landing some decent shots from guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Harris trying to control the position from guard on top but Raymond is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Harris scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Harris cracks Raymond with a solid left hand. Harris is in close to Raymond's body, working some short punches and elbows. Harris scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Harris is looking to advance position but Raymond has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Harris bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! This has been an exciting period of action! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Harris distracts Raymond with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Harris is in close to Raymond's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Raymond is rocked! Harris gets to his feet and stands over Raymond, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Raymond felt that one! Harris unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Raymond from any more punishment!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Harris! Bruce Harris took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
