PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rick Duthie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Feer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Duthie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Feer!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duthie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Feer tries to avoid it but Duthie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Feer to the ground. Feer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Duthie throws a right hand that Feer ducks under and follows up with a left that Feer also avoids with ease.
Duthie shoots in looking for a takedown. Feer tries to sprawl out of it but Duthie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Feer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Duthie comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Duthie tries to bum rush Feer with a series of wild strikes but Feer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Duthie looks to score with a jab to the body but Feer is just out of range.
Duthie fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rick Duthie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Duthie looks for a takedown but Feer sprawls well.
Duthie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Duthie misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Feer misses with a body shot.
Feer is looking to clinch but Duthie is avoiding it.

Feer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Feer not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Feer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Feer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Feer content to control rather than advance.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Feer shoots in for a double leg but Duthie sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Duthie shoots and misses

and Feer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Feer wants to control from the top but Duthie keeps moving.
Feer tries to free his leg and advance position but Duthie is retaining full guard.
Feer postures up in Duthie's guard and throws a big left but Duthie blocks it.
Feer sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Feer throws a big right hand that misses.
Duthie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Feer is trying to control but Duthie passes into side control!

Duthie moves into full mount!
Feer is trying desperately to improve position.
Feer tries to lock up and control but Duthie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Feer is wriggling around trying to escape.
Duthie wants to control the pace but Feer is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Feer dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Duthie throws a body punch but Feer moves out of range.
Duthie tries for a takedown but Feer circles away easily

and Feer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Duthie's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Duthie seems keen to control Feer's posture.
Feer trying to control the position from guard on top but Duthie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Feer is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Duthie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Feer's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Duthie stands and steps away. Feer gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A lull in the action here as Duthie stalls from top position.
Feer parries the strikes from Duthie easily there. Duthie is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Feer to escape.
Feer is looking for a sweep.

Feer prevents Duthie from improving position.
Feer tries to bench press Duthie off him but Duthie keeps the position.
Feer wants to control but Duthie postures up.
Feer is trying to work for a sweep but Duthie has mounted him!
Feer wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Duthie.
Duthie throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Feer tries to hold on but Duthie postures up.
Duthie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Duthie tries to control but Feer wriggling away.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Feer can do anything to dispel that myth.
Feer holds on, trying desperately to control.
Duthie manages to capitalize on a mistake by Feer to take his back!
Duthie is not going to allow Feer to sit and survive in this position.
Duthie trying to control.
You can see the frustration on Feer's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Duthie.
Feer tries to break free.
Feer trying to control but not successfully.
Duthie is riding his opponent, not letting Feer buck him off.
Feer trying to control the hands but Duthie won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rick Duthie will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Feer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Duthie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Feer keeps working.

Feer tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Duthie easily slips into full mount!

Feer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Josh Feer has got the better of the ground game so far.

Duthie breaks from Feer's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Feer tries to hold on but Duthie postures up.
Feer is just holding on here. Duthie manages to take his back.
Feer trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Duthie controlling the position well here. Feer rolled but Duthie kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Feer is in bad spot here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Duthie is trying to stick to Feer's back but Feer is turning into Duthie. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Duthie's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Feer.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Josh Feer.
I think Feer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
