PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Fontana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Murray Tye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Fontana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Murray Tye!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tye closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Tye is nestled in close to Fontana, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fontana is looking to control Tye's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fontana avoid being mounted?
Tye really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fontana. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fontana missing with punches from the bottom.
Tye not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Fontana is trying to control but can't.
Tye sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Fontana defending well though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fontana fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Tye gets a takedown into half guard.
Fontana is pressing down on Tye's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Fontana is trying to control the position but Tye postures up.
Tye throws and elbow that misses. Fontana uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tye's guard. Nice move by Fontana!
Fontana pushes down on Tye's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Tye scores with a few weak punches.
Tye tries to get to full guard but Fontana has control of the leg.

Fontana is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tye is just riding it out for now. Fontana eventually gives up the hold.
Tye is looking to improve his position.
Fontana is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fontana trying to control the action but Tye is working from the bottom.
Tye is looking for a sweep. Fontana is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Fontana postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Tye to stand up.
Tye swats away the attempt to clinch by Fontana.

Tye drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tye must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tye thows a big elbow that misses.
Fontana wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Fontana bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tye's guard.

Tye thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Fontana advances to half guard.
Fontana trying to control the action but Tye is working from the bottom.
Tye is pressing down on Fontana's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Tye looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fontana is one step ahead there.

Fontana is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fontana won't allow Tye to sweep him here.

Fontana has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tye is proving hard to escape from.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown by Fontana or perhaps it was just good defense by Tye which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Murray Tye dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Fontana is tying to control. Tye wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fontana scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ground and pound from Fontana.
Tye is looking to improve his position.
Tye lands with a few short shots to the body.
Fontana performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Tye misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Fontana is looking to advance position but Tye won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Tye avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fontana.
Fontana will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Tye circles away from the clinch attempt.
Fontana throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Fontana feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Tye's calf.

Fontana gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fontana avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fontana is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Tye stops Fontana from standing up.

Fontana shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tye as he jumps to the side.

Fontana is trying to stand up here but Tye is controlling him well.

Fontana lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tye!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tye can do anything to dispel that myth.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Fontana dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Fontana tries to clinch there but Tye circles away.
Fontana throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Tye throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fontana's waist but Fontana gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tye off to one side.
Tye shoots in for a takedown but Fontana shows good takedown defense.

Fontana stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Tye closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tye lands in his opponent's guard.
Tye tries to free his leg and advance position but Fontana is retaining full guard.
Fontana avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tye wants to pass the guard but Fontana is keeping the position.
Tye distracts Fontana with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tye accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tye is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Fontana lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tye!

Fontana is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Tye is surviving well by controlling Fontana's body position as best he can.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fontana lands with some strikes.

Fontana is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Fontana gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Tye shoots in and drives through. Fontana sprawls well.
Jack Fontana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Murray Tye.
Fontana will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Fontana successfully pulls guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fontana is on top in guard.
Fontana is looking to stand up but Tye won't let him.
Tye wants to hit a switch here but Fontana passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Tye there!
Tye can't escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fontana can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tye is looking to escape.
Tye tries to improve his position but instead Fontana has taken his back!
Tye breaks Fontana's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Tye lands a couple of digs.
Tye is working Fontana over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Tye throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fontana works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tye postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Tye trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tye is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Fontana has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Tye off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Fontana fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tye tries for a takedown but Fontana sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Fontana feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fontana decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Fontana tries to clinch there but Tye circles away.

Fontana gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fontana tries to strike from the bottom.
Tye is fighting to break Fontana's control of his arms but Fontana is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Fontana showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Fontana has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
