And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Williams!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canes tries to clinch up but Williams circles away and keeps his distance.
Canes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Williams as he jumps to the side.
Williams misses with a two punch combination.

Canes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Canes content to stall in guard here.
Canes trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Williams wants to sweep but no luck.
Williams trying to control the position here.
Canes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Williams is proving hard to escape from.

Canes missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Canes is pushing down on Williams's leg trying to pass to half guard. Williams is fighting to maintain full guard but Canes has managed to sneak the leg through.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Williams wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Williams bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Canes's guard.
Williams is pushing down on Canes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Canes is fighting to maintain full guard but Williams has managed to sneak the leg through.

Williams is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Williams is pressing down on Canes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Canes is holding on for now.

Williams prevents Canes from improving his position.
Williams is keen to just control but Canes is a slippery customer.
Canes throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Canes wants to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Canes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Williams swivels and escapes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Canes gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
The fight stays on the outside here - Canes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Williams looks to land a body kick but Canes moved away.
Canes lands a nice leg kick that just misses Williams's sensitive parts.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Williams rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Canes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Williams dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Canes moves into the clinch.
Canes creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Williams lands with a left to the head.
Williams is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Williams has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Canes clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Williams controlling the positon.
You can see the frustration on Canes's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Williams thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Williams is breathing heavily.

Canes defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Williams's arms.

Williams is trying to stick to Canes's back but Canes is turning into Williams. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Williams's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Canes.

Canes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Williams, up you get!
Canes fails with the takedown.

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Canes holds of for dear life.
Williams tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Canes is squirming around, avoiding Williams's attempts to control the action.

Williams might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Canes kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Williams fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Williams is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Canes can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Williams is working for a guillotine from mount but Canes frees his head quite easily.
Canes can't escape the position.

Williams moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Canes has worked his arm free - good work by Canes!

Williams is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Canes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Canes is looking to regain half guard here but Williams keeps moving and retains side control.
Williams is staying tight to Canes's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Williams working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Canes gets back to half guard.
Williams looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Canes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Canes is refusing to be controlled, as Williams sits in half guard.

Canes manages to escape and get back to his feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Williams drives through and clinches with Canes against the cage.
Canes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Williams just stands there and leans against the cage.
Williams controlling the action here for a moment.
Williams wants to get back to striking at distance but Canes won't allow it.
Williams managing to block the knees to the body from Canes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Canes shoots in and drives through. Williams sprawls well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Canes goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Canes wants to break free but Williams has control.
Canes tries to pull guard but Williams holds him up against the cage and eventually Canes drops back down to his feet.

Williams jumps guard and drags Canes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Williams lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Canes!
Canes regains half guard.

Williams is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Canes is just riding it out for now. Williams eventually gives up the hold.

Williams tries for a kimura but Canes is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Canes wants to control but Williams postures up.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Williams tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Williams in side control, throwing shots but Canes defends.
Williams grinds an elbow into Canes's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Canes!

Williams looking to isolate an arm here. Canes doesn't see it coming and as Williams extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Williams!
