PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yoga Fire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darth Vader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yoga Fire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Darth Vader!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vader shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Fire is trying to defend but Vader finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fire is trying to stand up here but Vader is controlling him well.
Fire on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Fire tries to get out of the position.
Vader is looking to pass Fire's guard but actually Fire recovers to full guard.
Vader wants to control from the top but Fire keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Darth Vader was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Fire is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Vader fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fire sprawls well initially but Vader persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Vader wants to pass to mount but Fire is defending the position.
Vader is looking to take a break and control but Fire is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vader tries to stand and escape but Fire is controlling the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fire is looking to escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Darth Vader.
Vader misses with a wild body shot.
Fire dodges the punch combination from Vader.
Vader lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vader throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fire was covering up waiting for the punch and Vader finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fire utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Fire wants to stand and escape but Vader is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vader trying to control the position from guard on top but Fire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Darth Vader wasn't active enough on the ground.
Vader walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Fire checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vader closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fire to the mat! Fire manages to get full guard.
Vader with a flurry of punches that miss.
Vader loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Vader stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fire swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vader trying to control the position from guard on top but Fire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darth Vader dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Vader throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fire tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Vader is in Fire's guard.
Vader trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Vader slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Darth Vader was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Vader tries to clinch there but Fire circles away.
Crunch! Vader slams his shin into Fire's torso.
Fire wants to clinch up but Vader keeps it at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vader is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fire's half guard.
Vader misses with a head shot. Fire uses the momentum to regain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vader stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fire swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vader wants to control from the top but Fire keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Vader passes Fire's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Fire knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vader on the ground.
Vader wants to pass to mount but Fire is defending the position.
Vader moves into full mount! Fire won't be happy about that!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vader looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Fire is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Fire is squirming around, avoiding Vader's attempts to control the action.
Fire is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vader controlling the position easily from mount.
Fire wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darth Vader showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Fire's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Vader scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Vader wants to control but Fire is keeping him busy.
Fire dodges the ground and pound from Vader.
Fire is not content to let Vader control the position.

Vader decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vader looks to land a combination but Fire avoids it well.
Vader delivers a nice body kick.
Vader tries to clinch up.

Fire gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vader to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Vader is pushing down on Fire's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fire is fighting to maintain full guard but Vader has managed to sneak the leg through.
Darth Vader has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vader stops Fire from getting back to his feet.

Vader seems to be looking for submissions.
Vader wants to pass the guard but Fire is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fire is refusing to be controlled, as Vader sits in half guard.
Vader throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Fire blocking the ground and pound attempt from Vader.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Darth Vader hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Vader closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vader tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vader has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Vader tries to score with some ground and pound. Fire controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vader goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Fire rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Vader's guard! Nice work there by Fire!

And that's the end of the fight!
Darth Vader comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Vader has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
