Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Evans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Wrong Way! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wrong Way drives through and clinches with Evans against the ropes.
Evans is trying to break free. Evans wants to get back to striking at distance but Wrong Way won't allow it.
Evans really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Wrong Way has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Evans is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Evans prevents a takedown attempt there.
Evans has hold of one of Wrong Way's legs. Wrong Way is fighting the takedown attempt but Evans gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Wrong Way isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Evans stacks Wrong Way on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Evans! Wrong Way is trying to improve his position. Evans tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Wrong Way manages to work his way to half guard, despite Evans's best efforts.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Evans wants to get back to his feet.
Wrong Way regains full guard. Nicely done. Evans will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Wrong Way keeping busy on the bottom but Evans has passed one foot through into half guard.
Wrong Way is trying to get back to full guard. Wrong Way is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Wrong Way looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Wrong Way looks gassed! Evans prevents Wrong Way from improving his position. Evans not doing much here.
Evans trying to control from half guard but Wrong Way is working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wrong Way is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Evans jumps into side control! Evans wants to stand but Wrong Way is controlling his arm.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Wrong Way has a takedown stuffed. Greg Evans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Wrong Way. Evans lands with a shot to the body. Evans throws a series of punches but Wrong Way avoids them all with ease. Evans misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Wrong Way shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Evans but Evans pushes him off and we're back to square one. Left hook, right uppercut from Evans. Wrong Way closes the distance and clinches up with Evans, looking for a takedown. Wrong Way pushes Evans against the ropes but Evans circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Evans with a poor takedown and Wrong Way counters with a nice double leg into guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Evans keeping full guard, as Wrong Way tries to pass. Evans knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wrong Way on the ground. Wrong Way is looking to stand up but Evans won't let him. Wrong Way prevents Evans from getting back to his feet. Wrong Way drops back, looking for a kneebar! Evans looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Evans looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Evans! This has been an exciting period of action! Evans working away. Wrong Way is looking for a sweep. Evans tries to stand but Wrong Way is controlling his head. Wrong Way tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Evans presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Greg Evans dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Evans fails in his attempt to clinch. Wrong Way shoots and misses and Evans counters with a series of strikes. Wrong Way will be more careful next time no doubt. Wrong Way stuffs the takedown attempt from Evans. Evans gets slowly back to his feet. Evans looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Evans tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Wrong Way with a lazy takedown attempt and Evans counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Wrong Way shoots and misses and Evans counters with a left and a right that stings Wrong Way.
Wrong Way is rocked! Greg Evans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Wrong Way. Wrong Way stuffs the takedown. Wrong Way is still on wobbly legs! Can Evans finish him? Evans fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wrong Way shoots and misses and Evans cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Wrong Way seems to have recovered his senses. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wrong Way fails with the takedown and Evans counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Evans.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans manages to break the clinch.
Evans tries to clinch but Wrong Way moves out of range. Wrong Way tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Evans counters with a one-two to the body. A good leg kick by Wrong Way. Evans circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Wrong Way to the canvas! Wrong Way doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Evans keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Greg Evans!
