PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ric Flair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Bags (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flair comes to the cage accompanied by ric flair theme song. Bags has chosen Princes of the Universe as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ric Flair!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Bags!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Franklyn Lucas and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bags decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Flair wants to get back to full guard.
Bags not doing much here.
Bags prevents Flair from improving his position.
Flair misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Flair is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Flair is working hard here to advance position.

Bags is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Flair has managed to free his arm - good work.
Flair has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bags is working away from the top position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bags shoots for a takedown but Flair saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Flair with a lazy takedown attempt
and Bags counters with a nice body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Flair.
Flair ducks under a wild hook from Bags.
No luck for Flair with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ric Flair. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Flair swats away the attempt to clinch by Bags.
Joey Bags seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Flair keeps the fight on the outside.
Flair changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bags tries to avoid it but Flair manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bags to the ground. Bags escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Flair is breathing heavily.

Bags moves into the clinch successfully.
Bags is looking to break free of the clinch but Flair has double underhooks.

Bags breaks from the clinch.
No joy there for Bags, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Bags lands with a nice combination. Flair backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Ric Flair has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bags feints and as Flair raises his hands in defense, Bags changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bags controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Bags postures up.
Bags forces his way into half guard.
Bags is keen to just control but Flair is a slippery customer.
Flair is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Bags lands a nice short elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bags decides to stand up.
Bags looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bags changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Flair tries to avoid it but Bags manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Flair to the ground. Flair escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bags lands a body shot.
Bags closes the distance and clinches up with Flair, looking for a takedown. Bags pushes Flair against the cage but Flair circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Flair scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Flair grinds an elbow into Bags's temple.
Bags taking a bit of punishment here - Flair scoring with strikes.
Flair is chipping away with strikes.
Flair slows the pace down.
Bags takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Flair tries to advance to mount but can't.
Flair wants to stand but Bags is controlling his arm.

Flair tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bags is looking to regain half guard here but Flair keeps moving and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bags is not content to let Flair control the position.
Flair tries to stand but Bags is controlling his head.
Flair tries to advance to mount but Bags instead regains half guard.
Flair knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bags on the ground.
Bags is pressing down on Flair's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bags is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Flair rolls with it to try and escape but Bags cranks on the arm and Flair is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joey Bags!
