Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sergio Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dragos Podgaetschii! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Podgaetschii scores with a jab to the body. Podgaetschii is looking to clinch. Podgaetschii showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Silva.
Podgaetschii will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Silva closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Podgaetschii moves into range and clinches up with Silva. Podgaetschii is defending well against a takedown attempt. Podgaetschii struggles to land a body shot inside as Silva controls his hands.
Silva changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Podgaetschii fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Podgaetschii tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Silva paws at him with a jab and circles away. Podgaetschii rushes Silva and presses him up against the cage. Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Silva misses with a hook. Podgaetschii ducked under it nicely. Podgaetschii shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Podgaetschii defends it well. Silva trying to mount his opponent but Podgaetschii defends it. Silva takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Silva moves into full mount! Podgaetschii won't be happy about that! Silva takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Silva won't let Podgaetschii get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Podgaetschii is forced to tap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Sergio Silva! Sergio Silva decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
