Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pete Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Figgs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniels comes to the cage accompanied by Copperhead Road. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pete Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frankie Figgs!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Figgs wants to clinch up but Daniels keeps it at a distance.
Daniels is trying hard to land a takedown here. Figgs sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Daniels gets a takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Figgs keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Daniels looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Daniels sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Figgs defending well though.
Daniels throws a strike but Figgs avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Figgs utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Daniels with a flurry of punches that miss.

Daniels drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Figgs manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Daniels has Figgs in his guard.
Figgs is stalling in the full guard.

Figgs stands up and waves to Daniels to follow him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Daniels closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Figgs is positioning himself well to prevent Daniels advancing to mount.

Figgs is defending against the submission attempts here by Daniels.
Figgs is in trouble now - Daniels has advanced to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Daniels throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Figgs because Daniels loaded up on that one.

Daniels wants to finish this one by submission but Figgs is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Daniels.

Daniels punching from mount but Figgs doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Daniels unloads with some shots from mount but Figgs bucks and avoids them well.
Figgs tries to lock up and control but Daniels gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Daniels throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Figgs avoids a series of strikes thrown by Daniels.
Daniels trying to control but Figgs is having none of it.
Figgs is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Figgs is wriggling around trying to escape.
Figgs wants to try and get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Daniels looking to land elbow strikes but Figgs uses the position to regain half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Daniels throwing shots but Figgs is blocking nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Daniels tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Figgs swivels and escapes.
Frankie Figgs is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Daniels.
Figgs wants to clinch up but Daniels keeps it at a distance.
Daniels misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pete Daniels. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Daniels shoots and misses
and Figgs counters with a series of strikes. Daniels will be more careful next time no doubt.
Figgs dives in and grabs Daniels's left leg, looking for a takedown. Daniels pushes down on Figgs's head and hops out.
Figgs tries to close the distance and clinch but Daniels swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Daniels wants to clinch.

Daniels bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Daniels throwing strikes but Figgs manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Daniels can't do much from the bottom here.

Figgs stands up and beckons Daniels to his feet.
Daniels shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Figgs holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Daniels jumps guard but Figgs stands there with Daniels around his waist. Daniels gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Daniels lands a hook that snaps the head of Figgs backwards.
Figgs is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Daniels is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Daniels is working for takedown but Figgs is calmly controlling the position for now.
Figgs is trying to maintain a safe position but Daniels gets an underhook and turns Figgs into the cage.
Figgs is pushing Daniels up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Figgs keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Daniels's efforts to push away.
Daniels jumps guard but Figgs stands there with Daniels around his waist. Daniels gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Daniels is looking for a takedown.
Daniels jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Figgs walks away with a smile on his face. Daniels gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Daniels misses with a takedown attempt - Figgs sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Figgs is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pete Daniels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Figgs looks to land a combination but Daniels avoids it well.
Daniels fails with a takedown attempt.

Figgs tries to keep at a distance but Daniels has taken the fight into the clinch.
Daniels tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Figgs just stands there and leans against the cage.
Figgs wants a takedown but no success here.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Daniels is trying to break the clinch but Figgs is controlling him.
Figgs manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Daniels wants a takedown.

Daniels has Figgs pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Daniels pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Figgs tumbling to the mat - Daniels dives into Figgs's guard.
Daniels stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Figgs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pete Daniels will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Daniels shoots in for a takedown but Figgs shows good takedown defense.
Daniels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Figgs tries to avoid it but Daniels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Figgs to the ground. Figgs escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Figgs looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Figgs drives through and clinches with Daniels against the cage.
Daniels changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Figgs fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pete Daniels. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Figgs darts in and clinches Daniels up against the cage.
Daniels has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Figgs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Figgs.

Figgs is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Figgs will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Daniels up against the cage.
Daniels is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Figgs is defending well.

Figgs's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Figgs tries to close the distance and clinch up but Daniels swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Daniels throws a nice looking combination but Figgs bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Figgs lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Figgs fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Figgs gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Daniels has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Figgs looking to control.
Daniels throws a strike but Figgs rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Figgs trying to control the position from guard on top but Daniels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pete Daniels is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Pete Daniels.

Daniels shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Figgs napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Daniels trying to control the action but Figgs is working from the bottom.
Figgs sneaks back into half guard.
Figgs pushes Daniels off looking to stand but Daniels dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Figgs is looking to improve his position.
Figgs is trying to stand back up but Daniels is controlling him
Daniels is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Daniels tries to control but Figgs wriggling away.
Frankie Figgs has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee warns Figgs that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Daniels looking to control and managing it successfully.
Daniels scoring with strikes but Figgs is staying in there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Daniels blocks Figgs's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pete Daniels.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Daniels, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
