Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hank Patterson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nathan Summers! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson throws a leg kick but Summers sees it coming and moves out of range. Patterson throws a front kick that sends Summers stumbling back into the cage. Patterson misses with an uppercut. Patterson forces Summers back against the cage and clinches. Summers lands a right hand that snaps the head of Patterson backwards. Summers lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Patterson backwards. Summers working aggressively here.
Patterson throws a head punch that misses. Summers tries to throw a body punch but Patterson avoids it by throwing Summers back against the cage. Patterson lands on the inside with an uppercut. Patterson prevents a body shot from Summers. A head punch on the inside from Summers fails to land. Summers goes for a takedown attempt but Patterson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Summers loads up on a big right hand but Patterson slips the punch. Summers defending well as Patterson loads up on a big left hand. Summers scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Patterson throws a leg kick but Summers sees it coming and checks it nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson misses with a body kick. Summers dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Patterson moves into range and clinches up with Summers. Summers looking for a takedown. Summers misses with a hook from the clinch. Patterson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Summers lands a hook that snaps the head of Patterson backwards. Summers turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Check out the look on Summers's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Summers trying to control the action but Patterson is working from the bottom. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Patterson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Summers's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Patterson is trying to stand back up but Summers is controlling him
Patterson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson is staying active underneath Summers, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Patterson is trying to stand back up but Summers is controlling him
Summers is nestled in close to Patterson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Patterson misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Summers has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Patterson works his way to full guard. Good work. Summers won't allow Patterson to get back to his feet. Summers trying to control but Patterson is working from the bottom. Summers is working Patterson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Patterson pushes Summers off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Summers swings for the body but Patterson moves out of range.
Summers takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Patterson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Patterson throws a punch but it's blocked by Summers. Summers blocks an uppercut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson throws a punch but it's blocked by Summers. Summers struggles to land a body shot inside as Patterson controls his hands.
Patterson manages to break the clinch.
Summers fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Patterson gets in close and instigates a clinch. Summers lands a nice uppercut. Summers is working Patterson over against the cage. Patterson lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Patterson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Summers creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Summers lands a right hand that snaps the head of Patterson backwards.
Patterson is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Summers lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Patterson to his knees! Summers keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
