PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roy Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bull comes to the cage accompanied by Black Label Society - Fire It Up. Patterson has chosen "I'm Too Sexy" as his entrance music. Pete Patterson will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roy Bull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pete Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Patterson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Bull manages to work his way to half guard, despite Patterson's best efforts.
Bull regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Patterson.
Patterson wants to stand and escape but instead Bull has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Patterson keeping moving, preventing Bull from controlling successfully.
Bull throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bull pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Patterson is keeping the position for now.

Patterson has his foot on Bull's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bull works his way back into a safe position though.
Bull postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Patterson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bull has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Patterson controlling the position.

Bull wants to control from the top but Patterson keeps moving.
Bull with a nice head shot there.
Bull controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Bull throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Patterson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bull pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Patterson is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bull trying to control but Patterson is working from the bottom.
Bull passes Patterson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Bull thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Patterson's head.
Bull is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Bull throws a strike but Patterson avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Bull with a flurry of punches that miss.
Patterson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bull trying to control the position from guard on top but Patterson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bull looking to pass the guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bull accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bull throws an elbow that misses. Patterson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bull's guard. Nice move by Patterson!
Patterson wants to control from the top but Bull keeps moving.
Patterson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Bull might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bull bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Patterson's guard.
Bull wants to pass the guard but Patterson is keeping the position.

Patterson pushes Bull off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Patterson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bull tries a head kick but it misses.
Patterson avoids the head kick by Bull.

Patterson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Bull gets back to full guard.
Patterson stopping the sweep attempt from Bull.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bull keeping moving, preventing Patterson from controlling successfully.

Patterson is posturing up here but Bull has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Patterson tries to roll out but it's too tight and Patterson has to tap! Slick submission there by Bull!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roy Bull!
