PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeo Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeo Warren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chad Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Warren fails with a takedown attempt.
Mendes goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Warren tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mendes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A combination from Mendes does no damage.
No luck for Mendes with that takedown attempt.
Mendes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Warren looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Warren manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Mendes dives in and grabs Warren's left leg, looking for a takedown. Warren pushes down on Mendes's head and hops out.

Warren shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Warren showed some decent athleticism there.

Warren closes the distance and pushes Mendes back into the cage.
Warren tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mendes smiles and moves away.

Mendes has managed to clinch.
Mendes throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Warren blocks it with crossed arms.
Warren tries to pull guard but Mendes forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Mendes throws a knee to the head but misses.

Mendes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Warren has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mendes finds it's way round the side to connect with Warren's head.

Warren drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendes wants to sweep here but Warren controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jeo Warren.
Mendes fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Warren tries to land a front kick but Mendes steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Mendes is pressed up against the cage. Warren has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mendes down to the mat. Mendes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Warren wants to get back to striking at distance but Mendes won't allow it.

Warren tries to pull guard but Mendes won't allow it.

Mendes lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Mendes takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Warren shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mendes pinned against the cage. Mendes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Warren circles away quickly and effectively.

Warren takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

We're going to have a standup here because Jeo Warren wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Chad Mendes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Warren has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
