PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Miranda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Eng (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Carlos Miranda has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Carlos Miranda seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Carlos Miranda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Eng!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miranda shoots for a double leg takedown but Eng sprawls well. He's pushed Miranda's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Miranda clinches up with Eng and pushes him back against the cage.
Eng wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Miranda has him pressed against the cage.
Eng has Miranda pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Miranda manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Miranda can't get the takedown.

Miranda drags the fight down to the ground.
Miranda keeping moving, preventing Eng from controlling successfully.
Miranda seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Eng must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Miranda has momentary wrist control but Eng slips an elbow through the middle.

Eng wants to control from the top but Miranda keeps moving.
Eng controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Miranda shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Eng napping and manages to drive through into side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Eng can do anything to dispel that myth.

Miranda decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Eng throws a head kick that misses
and Miranda counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Eng pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miranda tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Eng paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Eng scores with a body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Eng misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Eng shoots in but Miranda avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Eng displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miranda.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Miranda. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Miranda gets caught flat footed, as Eng shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Eng looks gassed!

Miranda has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Eng can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Eng really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miranda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Miranda has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Eng off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Eng displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miranda.
Eng scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Eng.
Eng swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Eng throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Eng enables Miranda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Eng manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Miranda is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eng wants to stand but Miranda is controlling the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Carlos Miranda will probably get the nod.

Eng throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Miranda to counter with a crisp jab.
Eng is breathing heavily.

Miranda drives through with a takedown into Eng's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Eng holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Miranda tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Eng is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Miranda takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Miranda slips a jab and a cross from Eng.
Eng shoots in looking for a takedown. Miranda tries to sprawl out of it but Eng keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Miranda manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Miranda closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Eng leaves Miranda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Well Miranda has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
