Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Canas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Canas's entrance music is DMX-Stop Being Greedy. A fine choice. Gracie comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dufflebag Boy kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Helio Gracie will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Canas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

24 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Helio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canas lands with a nice combination. Gracie backs away looking to recover.
No joy there for Canas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gracie misses with a head kick.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gracie manages to break the clinch.
Gracie is looking to clinch.
Canas blocks a head kick by Gracie.
Canas throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gracie connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Canas throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease.
Gracie slaps away a takedown attempt from Canas, before circling back to the center of the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Canas closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gracie to the mat! Gracie manages to get full guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Canas tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.
Canas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Canas stands up over Gracie, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Canas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Canas passes Gracie's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Canas throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Gracie to regain full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Canas landing with the ground and pound.
Canas postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.

Canas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gracie's guard.
Gracie is trying to stand back up but Canas is controlling him
Gracie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Canas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie is trying to get back to full guard.
Canas throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Canas is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gracie wants to control but Canas is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie blocking the ground and pound attempt from Canas.
Canas throwing shots but Gracie is blocking nicely.
Canas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gracie doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Canas.
Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A left and a right from Canas both land. Nice combination.
Gracie throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
No joy there for Canas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sloppy strikes from Canas. Those never looked like landing.
Gracie feints and then cracks Canas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Canas down.
Gracie throws a series of punches but Canas avoids them all with ease.

Gracie lands a slapping body shot.
Gracie throws a right hand that Canas ducks under and follows up with a left that Canas also avoids with ease.
Canas slips under a jab from Gracie.
Canas is looking to clinch but Gracie is avoiding it.
Gracie pushes Canas up against the cage in a clinch.

Gracie pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gracie lands with a right hand.
Helio Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gracie misses with a straight left.

A shot to the liver by Gracie. Beautiful body shot.
Gracie doesn't manage to clinch there - Canas circles away.
Canas misses with a double jab
and Gracie counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gracie throws a lazy uppercut
and Canas counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Helio Gracie is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gracie misses with an attempted mid kick.

Gracie connects with a right hand. Canas shakes it off.
Gracie moves in looking to clinch but Canas pushes him off.
Canas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Canas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.
Canas walks forward, straight into a front kick from Gracie.
No joy there for Canas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Canas throws a right and a left that Gracie avoids nicely.
Gracie looks to land a left hand but Canas moved out of range nicely.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gracie.
Gracie lands a head kick that stumbles Canas and the fighters go to the mat.

Gracie stops Canas from standing up.
Oh Canas is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Canas pushes Gracie off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Canas seems to have got his legs back now.
Canas keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Canas ducks right into an uppercut from Gracie.
Helio Gracie seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Canas misses with a two punch combination.
Gracie cracks Canas with a right hand to the side of the head.
Canas misses with a series of wild punches.

Canas throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Gracie counter with a right hand.
Gracie lands with a right hand.
Gracie cracks Canas with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Canas tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Gracie pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Canas is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
