PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Iain Durrant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Sarnavskiy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Durrant has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 26 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Iain Durrant! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Sarnavskiy! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Durrant fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Sarnavskiy looks to land a right hand but Durrant moved out of range. Sarnavskiy looks to throw the jab but Durrant is out of range. Sarnavskiy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sarnavskiy throws a lazy uppercut
and Durrant counters with a right hand to the body. Sarnavskiy misses with the combination.
Durrant bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Sarnavskiy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sarnavskiy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Sarnavskiy misses with a left hand and Durrant counters with a takedown into side control. Sarnavskiy tries to bench press Durrant off him but Durrant keeps the position. Durrant advances to mount. Durrant has hold of Sarnavskiy's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sarnavskiy manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
That's one minute gone in the round. Durrant trying to control but Sarnavskiy is having none of it. Durrant wants to take his opponent's back but Sarnavskiy doesn't allow it. Durrant working for a guillotine from mount but Sarnavskiy is in no mood to give up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Durrant looking for a guillotine from mount but Sarnavskiy is having none of it. Sarnavskiy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Durrant. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sarnavskiy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Durrant working for a submission but Sarnavskiy is keeping him at bay. Durrant looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Durrant misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Durrant looking to ground and pound but Sarnavskiy is blocking nicely. Sarnavskiy is trying to stand up. Durrant working for a submission but Sarnavskiy is keeping him at bay. Durrant with the ground and pound from mount. Durrant looking for a guillotine from mount but Sarnavskiy is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sarnavskiy squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Durrant postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sarnavskiy looks a forlorn figure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Durrant with a couple of short strikes. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Durrant throws some wild stikes that Sarnavskiy manages to avoid easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Durrant throwing strikes here but Sarnavskiy is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Durrant can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sarnavskiy is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Iain Durrant dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Durrant closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Durrant landing a few strikes. You can see the frustration on Sarnavskiy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Durrant tries to advance to mount but can't. Durrant tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Durrant has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Durrant working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Durrant is trying to get an arm triangle but Sarnavskiy is defending well. Durrant is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Sarnavskiy looks calm but he's in trouble here. Durrant gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Sarnavskiy is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Durrant lets go of the hold and Sarnavskiy can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Iain Durrant!
