Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Austin McCoy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Shane Turnham! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Turnham keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
It looks like Austin McCoy has been cut. Turnham scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. McCoy on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Turnham working over McCoy with some ground and pound. McCoy looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. This has been an exciting period of action! Turnham is looking to advance position but McCoy won't allow it. McCoy wants to get back to full guard. McCoy gets back to full guard.
Turnham throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McCoy works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Turnham trying to control the position from guard on top but McCoy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McCoy wants to sweep but no luck.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCoy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Turnham's guard. McCoy throwing strikes from guard but Turnham blocks nicely. McCoy might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Turnham wants to stand but McCoy is controlling the position. Turnham has McCoy pulled in close to control his posture. McCoy tries to free his leg and advance position but Turnham is retaining full guard. Turnham has his hands on McCoy's head, controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Shane Turnham wasn't active enough on the ground. Horrible takedown by McCoy or perhaps it was just good defense by Turnham which made him look bad. McCoy shoots in for a double leg but Turnham sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. McCoy takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McCoy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Turnham sprawls well. Turnham wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McCoy gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Austin McCoy. That's going to take a lot out of him. Turnham avoids the head kick by McCoy.
Turnham lands a head kick that stumbles McCoy and the fighters go to the mat.
McCoy is rocked! Turnham stands and steps away. McCoy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Turnham scores with a push kick. McCoy is breathing heavily. Turnham lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Turnham shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! McCoy is on queer street and Turnham is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!
