PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mariusz Igielski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mariusz Igielski told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mariusz Igielski!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Igielski is looking to reverse the position.
Igielski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Igielski wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Santos is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Igielski knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Igielski can do anything to dispel that myth.

That was a close round but I would say that Jorge Santos will probably get the nod.

Igielski looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Santos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Igielski circles away.

Santos shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Igielski pinned against the cage. Igielski gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Igielski shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Santos's guard.

Mariusz Igielski showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Jorge Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Igielski keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Santos enables Igielski to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Santos manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jorge Santos.
I think Santos has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
